On the surface, excess weight distorts how you look. When this happens, I know that it affects how others view you and react to you. “What do you think of other men who are overweight?” The answer always comes back the same: “They’re out of control.”They say it in different ways, but they’re unanimous in the belief that if you can’t control your weight, and then you can’t control your life! I believe that when you’re overweight, you may not admit it, but deep down you have a visceral understanding of this fact and that it affects whether you’re truly happy about who you are. This has got to affect your self-esteem. In the end, you cannot be the truly great person that you could be for yourself, your family, your friends, and your business associates.
How you look is of course just an exterior snapshot of what’s happening inside your body. Your gray skin tone, the bags under your eyes, and your signs of fatigue are all indications of what is going on inside. Ask a surgeon about what they see when they open a fat person for routine operation. Of course, you don’t need to, because if you really think about it, you already know the answer. It’s not a pretty thought, and we don’t tend to pay much attention to our insides unless we’re in pain or can’t function normally. We always think that it’s going to be the other guy!
Maybe you’re not ill yet, but you know it’s just a matter of time. All those muscles and organs are what support us, day in and day out. What we put in our mouths each day determines whether that incredible machine, the body, works efficiently or not. Look at yourself in the mirror and decide whether you really like what you see. Then I want you to find it within yourself to eat differently for the rest of your life. Whether you’re grossly overweight, or simply need to lose the 10 or 15 pounds that have been creeping to a gradually larger number over the last few years, the chances are good that you’ve been quite willing to accept yourself as an overweight man with a fat mindset.
The way you look today is a result of the thoughts you had yesterday. If you want to know what your body will be like tomorrow, then you’ve got to pay attention to your thoughts today. Ask yourself, “Am In going to continue to put up with this?” “What am I going to do about it? The answer has to be “make a change in your eating habits, starting this moment. I truly believe that tomorrow is ours to live as we choose, and choose we must.
