Why Starvation Diets Don’t Work
We have all had those days where we have binged on unhealthy foods- pizza, pasta, chips, ice cream and so on. We wake up the next day feeling bloated, guilty and overall disgusting. For many people, the first thought is that they are just simply not going to eat the following day in hopes that the calories eaten the previous day will balance out. Listen here, THIS DOES NOT WORK. Starving yourself does more harm than good.
Starvation diets don’t work. If you start to drastically reduce the number of calories you consume per day, the pounds may go down but don’t be deceived, the only weight you are losing is water weight. When you are on a very low calorie diet, your body goes in to starvation mode-which slows down your metabolism, making it hard for you to burn fat. Your body actually starts to store your fat instead of burn it because it doesn’t know when you will be feeding it next.
Starvation diets are not long- term diets, they can’t be. Once your body starts to store your fat, you will be unable to lose it even if your caloric intake is extremely low. This is one of the reasons why people cannot sustain a starvation diet. Once they see that their fat loss has come to a standstill they won’t be as inclined to be on this type of terrible diet (and they’ll also be pretty hungry).
Once these people start eating again, most often they revert back to their old ways of eating and gain back all their weight plus more since their metabolism has slowed down and their muscles have depleted.
If you are looking to lose weight, there are many great ways to do so. Please keep in mind that starvation diets actually do more harm for your body than good. It may seem like a good idea at the time but the reality of it is that you are just hurting yourself. Your body goes in to defense mode and begins to store your fat, making it impossible to lose beyond a certain amount. Not only that, but your metabolism will slow down drastically. Everybody who goes on starvation diets eventually end up gaining their weight back and then some.
